Winter Percussion

Congratulations to Winter Percussion, 2021 WGI World Championship Finalists!!

The WRHS Winter Percussion Ensemble was the undefeated state champion in the Percussion Scholastic A class and WGI World Championship Finalists in Spring 2021.

What is Winter Percussion?

Winter Percussion group is similar to front ensemble (pit) groups that are part of marching band. Many Winter Percussion members play wind instruments in bad or marching band, and the 2021 group also included a violin! WP competes in events on Saturdays during February and March.

Our Winter Percussion group was undefeated in the state in both Spring 2020 and again in Spring 2021, when they were WGI World Championship Finalists.

What are the costs?

Fees include uniforms, instruments, instruction, entry fees for competitions, music and design, travel, etc.

Estimated costs are $300-350 per student. We won’t know final costs until we know how many students will participate, their instruments and the size of the truck for transportation to competitions and how many competitions. Fees can be paid all at once or monthly.

There are opportunities to volunteer for Bronco events to raise money for your student ledger. See Ms. Graf if you are interested.

The WRHS Boosters support Winter Percussion by paying a portion of instructor fees and competition fees.

When are the practices?

After school on Tuesdays and Thursdays, typically starting in early November.

When are the competitions?

· Competitions are on Saturdays in February and March

· Prep for the competitions – typically we load the truck on the evening before the competitions

· Travel to comps – students carpool to and from events with parent volunteers. Our ensemble stays for the entire event to watch all competitors and stay for Retreat.

· Schedule at comps – ensemble arrives, unloads instruments, pushes instruments and equipment to practice area (outside!) and then pushes to inside comps

· Volunteers needed! – parents are needed to drive and push equipment. It’s typically all day but a fun day!

· State Competition – we may have a hotel stay, depending on the schedule of the state competition.

· Families will get an email during competition weeks, outlining schedules and volunteer needs.

Winter Percussion participants need to do their best to attend ALL of the events. Our ensemble is small and music is written specifically for us and each participant’s contribution.

Winter Percussion performing on 3/12/20 at the Futures Concert. WP placed 1st at every competition in Spring of 2020. This was their last performance before events were cancelled.
